Mental illness is not specifically mentioned in the Bible however Jesus does say many things about demons, physical sickness, and deformity with one example being in Mark 5. One of the best examples of mental illness in the Bible is Saul. Saul's behavior is consistent with manic depression ending in his suicide (The book of 1Samuel). God appears to actually attribute problems with our thinking to be the influence of the enemy and demonic spirits because there are several scriptures that tell us what God has given us in our thinking. 2Tim1:7 tells us we have been given love, power, and a sound mind not a mind of fear and we have the mind of Christ (1Cor. 2:16). God tells us not to worry or be anxious about anything but to bring our requests to Him with thanksgiving so we can receive the peace of God. Then the scripture goes on to tell us that we are only to let our minds think on what is lovely, just, right, and pure.
