The Legacy Academy Geography Bee is held annually. It’s a geography competition for students in grades 4th through 8th. We register and obtain the materials needed from National Geographic. The 1st Place winner is required to take a qualifying test to attend the State Geography Bee.
The Legacy Academy Spelling and Vocabulary Bee is an annual spelling and vocabulary competition derived from the Scripps National Spelling Bee. We register with them annually. Students in grades 1st through 8th compete in a Classroom Bee. The top two winners from the Classroom Bees move on and compete in the School-wide Spelling and Vocabulary Bee. The top two winners from the School-wide Bee compete in the Private and Parochial Bee. Winners of the Private and Parochial Bee would then follow the direction of Scripps National Spelling Bee.
The Legacy Academy Science Fair is an annual science project based competition. Students in grades 4th through 8th are given the opportunity to decide upon a compare/contrast Science project. They are equipped with a Science Fair packet that gives them step-by-step directions on how to successfully complete their project. Students enter their projects into the Science Fair to be judged on all the components listed within the packet. Each student receives a participation ribbon, and then winners are chosen from each predetermined category and given a ribbon based upon their winner level. We have been very fortunate to receive judges from Sandia Labs each year. Based on the requirements of the competition, winners may go on to compete at a higher level.
